The bright future of nanodiamond
Fluorescent nanodiamonds: preparation techniques and applications.
Diamond nanostructures with embedded color centers have attracted an ever-increasing attention for applications in quantum science and technology. Moreover, these systems are emerging as a new type of nanomaterial that holds great promise for biochem sensing and nanomedicine. They indeed exhibit several remarkable features, including bright photoluminescence in the extended red region, no photobleaching and photoblinking, easiness of surface functionalization for specific or nonspecific binding with nucleic acids and proteins, and biocompatibility.
Nanodiamond (lengthscales from 1 to 100 nanometer) includes pure-phase diamond films, diamond nanoparticles, 1D diamond nanorods and nanocone and 2D diamond nanoplatelets. In this talk, recent advancement in the preparation of fluorescent nanodiamond will be presented together with some of their more promising applications.
